Chief Electoral Officer Shri Anupam Rajan said that the police are continuously taking action to seize licensed weapons and explosive materials ever since the Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha Elections-2024 came into effect from March 16.

Shri Rajan said that till now 2 lakh 73 thousand 432 licensed weapons have been deposited in police stations in the state. 46 thousand 832 non-bailable warrants have also been served in the state. A total of 792 arms licenses have been cancelled. During the operation, till now 3 thousand 344 illegal weapons, 934 cartridges and 6 explosive substances have been seized by the police. Along with this, restrictive action has been taken against 2 lakh 11 thousand 651 persons under various sections. Strict monitoring is being done from a total of 312 inter-state checkpoints and 522 internal checkpoints in the state. In view of election monitoring, 691 flying squads, 833 surveillance teams (SST) and 39 quick response teams (QRT) are working in the state.
