The Urban Administration and Development Department has issued a circular to all municipal commissioners of municipal corporations and chief municipal officers of municipalities and nagar panchayats in the state. The circular directs them to carry out all solar energy-related work through CREDA (Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency). Citing a letter from the Energy Department, the circular instructs municipal corporations, municipalities, and nagar panchayats not to undertake any solar energy projects independently within their jurisdictions but to collaborate with CREDA, the designated nodal agency of the state government.
Notably, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Urban Administration and Development, Shri Arun Sao, has instructed urban bodies to reduce energy costs by auditing energy consumption and electricity bills. He has emphasised the promotion of solar energy and green energy use in urban bodies as alternatives to conventional energy, aiming to lower electricity expenses and protect the environment. This initiative is expected to decrease costs for urban bodies while providing environmental benefits.
