Six cities of the state get 552 PM E buses for transportation facility

Proposal approved in Cabinet meeting

Continuous efforts are being made by the Urban Administration Development Department to make transportation facilities accessible in the urban areas of the state. A proposal of the Urban Administration Department was approved in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav here today. He gave instructions that transport facilities should be expanded to serve people in urban areas.

In view of providing urban transport facilities to citizens in the urban areas of the state, Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya had appealed to the Union Urban Development Ministry to give allocation as per demand under this head, which has been accepted by the Central Government.

Main points of the proposal

  • 552 buses have been provided to 6 cities including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain and Sagar.
  • Indore has got approval to operate 150 PM e-buses, Bhopal 100, Gwalior 70, Jabalpur 100, Ujjain 100 and Sagar 32.
  • The central government will issue tender for the proposal.
  • Each city will receive an amount of Rs 10 crore from the Central Government for the construction of bus depot.
  • The buses will be operated by the concerned municipal corporation. The services of drivers and conductors in buses will be provided by the operator.
  • Revenue from passenger fare and advertisement amount will also be given to the concerned Municipal Corporation.
  • Subsidy amount of Rs 22 per kilometer for bus operation will be given by the Central Government for 12 years.
  • The operating state will get guarantee from the central government.

A committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to work on the approved proposal. The committee will comprise Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Principal Secretary Energy, Principal Secretary Urban Development and Principal Secretary Transport as members. Commissioner, Urban Administration Department will be the Member Secretary of the committee.
