Service to those suffering is the true service to God: Governor Shri Patel

Governor addresses the Annual General Meeting of the State Red Cross Society
Red Cross units honoured for outstanding performance

Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that service to suffering humanity is true service to God. He said that the work being done by Red Cross in the state is a medium of service to humanity. District units should try to do better service in this campaign. The Red Cross should take special steps to provide medical services to the poor and the suffering. Shri Patel was addressing the annual general meeting of State Red Cross at Sandipani Auditorium of Raj Bhavan today. Principal Secretary to the Governor, Shri Sanjay Kumar Shukla and Chairman of Red Cross Society, Dr. Gagan Kolhe were also present.

Governor Shri Patel said that Red Cross plays a significant role in providing health services to the poor, deprived and needy of the society. The rich class should also extend its support in the supply of modern treatment resources in Red Cross government hospitals. A campaign should be launched to register new colleges with Youth Red Cross. Values should be instilled in the youth and they should be provided opportunities to contribute towards social concerns. He said that the making of Nikshay Mitras in the T.B. awareness campaign is commendable. He expressed the need to run a public cooperation campaign to help sickle cell anemia patients. Shri Patel said that sensitization among doctors and medical staff is very important to eradicate sickle cell anemia. To eradicate sickle cell anemia by the year 2047, the identification, treatment and counseling in tribal dominated districts should be speeded up.

At the outset, Governor Shri Patel was given a warm welcome and a memento. The Governor also honoured the Red Cross units of various districts for their excellent performance. State Red Cross Society President Dr. Gagan Kolhe delivered the welcome address. General Secretary Shri Pradeep Tripathi gave information about the activities of the society. Treasurer Shri Shashank Srivastava gave details of the financial management of the Society. Vice Chairman Shri Bharat Jhanwar expressed the vote of thanks. Director of All India Blood Bank, Smt. Vanshi Singh, senior officers, members of the state and district Red Cross committees were also present in the programme.
