Dubai, March 9 (IANS) India sealed their third title in the 2025 Champions Trophy with an authoritative victory over New Zealand in the final, going through the campaign without losing a single game. Cricketing greats have hailed Rohit Sharma and co for their relentless and consistent performance in recent ICC tournaments.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh suggested that the skipper may have been blessed with the ‘Midas touch’ in ICC white-ball tournaments.

“What a game and what a final! The Champions Trophy comes home. Outstanding captaincy by hitman @ImRo45, who led from the front all through the tournament – he is blessed with the Midas touch when it comes to ICC white-ball tournaments!

“Successful games for @ShreyasIyer15, @ShubmanGill, @klrahul, @hardikpandya7, who stepped up when needed and showed nerves of steel under pressure. @imjadeja @imkuldeep18 @akshar2026 #VarunChakaravarthy spun magic all thru the tournament and @MdShami11 was relentless with the ball! Tough luck, @BLACKCAPS you had us on the edge till the very end. But this was our tournament!” posted Yuvraj on X.

“Superb effort by India…What a performance in world tournaments over the last 2 yrs! so much depth in the squad- congratulations to all…Rohit Sharma captain marvellous…@bcci,” posted former India head coach Sourav Ganguly.

This was India’s fourth appearance in the finals of ICC events in two years under Rohit’s captaincy and their second victory after lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup. It is also India’s third Champions Trophy title after previously lifting the title in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013.

The 2025 Champions Trophy was Pakistan’s first home tournament in 29 years but the hosts were embarrassingly eliminated in the group stage after defeats against India and New Zealand. The legends of the host country also took the time to acknowledge India’s dominance in the tournament.

“The best team of the tournament has won the Champions Trophy. That too without dropping a single match!” read the caption by Shoaib Akhtar.

“Many congratulations to India on winning the Champions Trophy. Very well deserved as they have been the most consistent team throughout the tournament,” posted former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik.
