Publishing or publicizing any type of exit poll and its results is completely prohibited till 6:30 pm on 1st June

The Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha Elections-2024 is effective. Chief Electoral Officer Shri Anupam Rajan said that according to the notification issued by the Election Commission of India on March 28, during the Model Code of Conduct, no exit poll of any kind can be conducted and printed in connection with the elections till 6:30 pm on June 1, 2024 and publishing or publicizing its results in electronic media or disseminating it in any other way is strictly prohibited. He said that it has been made clear in the notification of the Commission that there will be a complete ban on the display of any kind of election-related matters including the results of any type of opinion poll or any other polling survey during the elections.

Notably, it has been provided in Section 126A of the Public Representation Act 1951 that no person shall conduct any exit poll survey and the result of any such survey shall not be published or publicized during such period as may be notified by the Election Commission in this regard through print or electronic media or disseminated in any other manner. If any person violates this provision, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
