Ponniyin Selvan: 1 soundtrack on TIPS Music wins Best Music Album at Filmfare Awards South 2023

~ A. R. Rahman receives award for the Best Music Album

~ Antara Nandy wins Best Playback Singer (Female) for song “Alaikadal”

Chandigarh, 22nd July 2024: The 68th Filmfare Awards South 2023, postponed last year due to unforeseen circumstances, has now announced the winners digitally. The music album of the blockbuster film, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, which was released on the TIPS Music label has won two awards, the Best Music Album for music maestro, A. R. Rahman and Best Playback Singer (Female) for Antara Nandy winning for the song “Alaikadal”. The film was also awarded the Best Film of 2023.

Kumar Taurani, Managing Director of Tips Industries Limited, said, “We are incredibly proud to be associated with the phenomenal musical success of Ponniyin Selvan: 1. The recognition at the Filmfare Awards South follows a successful release that saw the soundtrack capturing the soul of music lovers across the country. My heartfelt congratulations to Mani Ratnam for his masterful direction, A. R. Rahman for crafting a mesmerizing soundtrack and Antara Nandy for her captivating rendition of ‘Alaikadal.’ The film’s music has resonated deeply with audiences, and this success further strengthens Tips’ legacy in the South Indian music industry.”

A.R. Rahman, upon receiving the award, shared, “While I was touring the US, our preparations for composing the film’s music began much earlier. A couple of years before, my team and I started preparations for the film by visiting Bali with the gracious support of Mani Ratnam ji, who took us there for research and to acquire some musical equipment. We brought these back to India, leading to the creation of numerous tunes. Mani Ratnam ji has an exceptional talent for selecting the most intriguing pieces. His choices are always unique and forward-thinking, perfectly aligning with the screenplay and enhancing the story. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mani Ratnam ji, Lyca Productions, Madras Talkies, Tips Music, and all my dedicated team members who worked tirelessly alongside me, including the musicians, singers, lyricists Ilango Krishnan, Kabilan, Siva Ananth, and Krithika Nelson of PS1. Ella Pugazhum Iraivanuke. Thank you so much.”

Ecstatic about her win, Antara Nandy shared, “It’s definitely an overwhelming feeling as I didn’t see it coming. I recorded Alaikadal as a scratch and never thought that it would be released in my voice. I got to know it a week before the audio launch. I am surprised, shocked in every way. I had no clue that it’s been nominated for Filmfare. I was surprised and overjoyed when I got to know from a friend that I have won the Filmfare awards. This has been a dream for me and my family. I am still trying to process it but it’s an honour to receive this award. I want to thank Rahman sir and the whole team for this opportunity.”

With the success of the soundtrack of “Ponniyin Selvan: 1” at the 68th Filmfare Awards South 2023, Tips Music continues to deliver winning musical experiences to music lovers across India.
