Polycab India Launches ‘Polycab Utkarsh’ Program on World Youth Skills Day

The initiative aims at transforming lives of electricians through a technical upskilling program

Chandigarh, July 18, 2024 – Polycab India Ltd, one of India’s leading manufacturers of electrical goods, has announced the launch of ‘Polycab Utkarsh’, an innovative skill development program aimed at empowering electricians across India. The initiative has been unveiled on World Youth Skills Day, with Polycab committing to train electricians through a Recognition of Prior Learning approach. This program is designed to upgrade the skills of electricians who may have learned their trade without access to formal training in the electrical sector.

Electricians are the backbone of the electrical industry and play a vital role in ensuring the safety, efficiency and reliability of electrical installations and appliances. However, many electricians start their careers as apprentices with little to no formal technical training. They rely on their experience and word-of-mouth to learn the trade, which limits their scope of work and income potential.

Polycab Utkarsh is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that aims to provide technical, safety and soft skills training to the electrician community. The technical skills include handling power tools, low voltage electrical wiring and installing LV electrical panels. The safety module will cover personal health, safety and environmental protocols at construction sites. The trained electricians will in turn ensure better service to customers enhancing electrical safety at home.

Inder Jaisinghani, Chairman & Managing Director, Polycab India said, “Electricians are the unsung heroes of our industry, often working in challenging conditions to keep our homes and businesses powered. They often operate under perilous conditions, risking their lives to ensure essential services. In their critical role, they face numerous hazards and inadequate safety measures. Our aim at Polycab is to enrich the lives of electricians by equipping them with essential training that would aid in enhancing safety and a better livelihood for them and their families. ”

Polycab has partnered with the Siddhivinayak Krupa Charitable Foundation to implement this program. The program will cover theory as well as practical aspects of training, ensuring an in-depth understanding of the course module.

Polycab Utkarsh will facilitate enrolled electricians to appear for Construction Skill Development Council examinations under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) course. Upon successful completion, participants will receive certification, recognizing them as skilled workers and enhancing their professional credentials.
