On the second Monday of the month of Shravan, a new chapter was added to the glorious history of Baba Mahakal’s sawari in Ujjain. For the first time in the sawari, the melodious presentation of 350 police brass band personnel added grandeur to the Sawari. During the puja from the sawari route to the holy Ramghat on the banks of Kshipra, special presentations were given by the police band, leaving the devotees enthralled. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav congratulated the police band for a wonderful presentation.

On the second Monday of Shravan, Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar was taken on a city tour in the form of Shri Chandramouleshwar in a palki and in the form of Shri Manmahesh on an elephant to give darshan to his devotees and to inquire about the well-being of his subjects. Before the Sawari began, Panchayat, Rural Development, and Labour Minister Shri Prahlad Patel performed aarti of Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar in the hall of the Shri Mahakaleshwar temple complex. Official pujari Pt. Ghanshyam Sharma conducted the puja.

Those who took part in the puja and aarti were Mahant Shri Vineet Giri Ji Maharaj of Shri Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara, MLA Shri Anil Jain Kaluhera, MLA Shri Satish Malviya, MLA Shri Mahesh Parmar, Municipal Chairman Smt. Kalavati Yadav, Shri Rajpal Singh Sisodia, Shri Bahadur Singh Bormundla, Shri Mukesh Bhati, and Shri Vikas Veerani, besides senior administrative and police officers Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar.

The presentation by the police band of 350 trained jawans on the special initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav added more grandeur to the Baba Mahakal sawari. It may be noted that Chief Minister Dr. Yadav while emphasizing the importance of the Police Band, had asked for the establishment of the Police Band in every district and training of policemen and encouraging them to join the band. On his instructions, police personnel in the police units of the state were given special training in band playing and various musical instruments. Trained jawans performed today in the procession of Baba Mahakal.

Devotees dance to the melodious tunes of Shiva bhajans

Devotees danced to their heart’s content on the melodious tunes of Shiva bhajans like Namah Shivay, Om Namah Shivay, Har Har Shambhu, Deva Mahadeva, Om Jai Shiv Omkara, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, etc. played by the police band. Training was also given for the presentation by the police band. A special presentation was given by the police band at Ramghat.

Tribal artists give fascinating presentations

In the second Sawari of Baba Mahakal in the month of Shravan, captivating performances were given by the tribal artists of the Chhindwara and Dindori districts. The artists coming from Chhindwara, wearing traditional costumes like kurta, dhoti, and turban, gave attractive performances of Bhadham dance on musical instruments like Mandal, Dhol, etc. The tribal artists of Dindori district added lustre to the sawari with their captivating Karma dance performance on musical instruments like Thiski, flute, Madal, Timki, etc. As per directions of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav Groups of tribal artists from different tribal districts of the state are participating in the Baba Mahakal sawari.

Jalabhishek of Lord Mahakal at Ramghat

As soon as the procession of Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar left the Mahakal temple and reached Ramghat, there was an atmosphere of reverence and joy all around. The puja of Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar and Jalabhishek was performed by Pandit Shri Ashish Guru etc. Lord Mahakaleshwar reached the banks of Kshipra in the form of Chandramouleshwar to bless his devotees. After this, Jalabhishek of the Lord was done with the water of Maa Kshipra. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Shri Prahlad Patel performed Jalabhishek of the Lord at Ramghat. After the puja, Rudrapath was performed by the pujaris.

Devotees have darshan in LED installed in a moving rath

With two mobile chariots fitted with two LEDs at the front and back, devotees had easy access to darshan of the sawari of Baba Mahakal in the live telecast. The mobile chariots were attractively decorated with garlands. Along with this, devotees also watched the live telecast through big LEDs at major places like Mahakal Valley, Dutt Akhara, Ramghat, Gopal Temple etc.

As soon as Lord Shri Chandramouleshwar reached the main gate of Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in the palki, the Armed Police Force personnel gave a salute (guard of honour) to Shri Chandramouleshwar. Devotees standing at various places on the ride route, chanted Jai Shri Mahakal and showered flowers on Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar, the king of Ujjain city. Lord Indra welcomed Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar.

Baba Mahakal sawari darshan made easy for devotees

Thousands of devotees in the procession of Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar moved enthusiastically alongside the palki while offering prayers to Mahakal and playing musical instruments like Jhanjh, manjire, damru, dhol etc. Devotees had darshan of Baba Mahakal very conveniently. The sawari reached Ramghat first and then back to Gopal Temple through various routes where as per tradition, Shri Chandramouleshwar seated in the palki was worshiped by the Gopal Temple pujari on behalf of Scindia state. The sawari then returned to Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple for rest after the aarti.

Presentation of traditional Naada-Brahma at Dutt Akhara

On the second Monday of Shravan, the traditional Naada-Brahma presentation was given at Dutt Akhara. Under the guidance of the Acharyas of Madhav Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Shiva bhajans based on various ragas were presented by the students of the college.

Administration ensures foolproof arrangements

All necessary arrangements were made by the administration to ensure that darshan was made convenient for the devotees. The arrangements were continuously monitored by senior officials. Arrangements were handled by more than 2 thousand forces of police administration and volunteers. The ride route was monitored through drones.

Sawari route highlights

The Baba Mahakal sawari was welcomed with attractive rangolis drawn at various places.

Thousands of devotees showered flowers on the Baba Mahakal route. A large crowd was present all around the route for darshan.

Many devotees donned various attractive attires and graced the sawari.

Baba Shri Mahakal’s palki was taken out with a huge flag in front.
