Liquor contractor killed in Gurugram over business rivalry

Gurugram, March 18 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old liquor contractor was shot dead allegedly over a liquor business rivalry here in Gurugram, police said.

A man also suffered injuries in the firing. The deceased was identified as Baljeet Singh (50), while the injured was identified as Ravinder (27), a resident of Hayatpur in Gurugram.

The entire incident was captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the victim’s office. CCTV footage of the incident showed Baljeet sleeping in his office and Ravinder trying to save himself as the assailants continued to fire at him.

In the CCTV footage, it can also be seen that the two bike-borne armed assailants wearing helmets arrived at the spot, and after committing the crime, they fled the spot.

It is being said that the two assailants nearly fired half a dozen rounds.

According to the police, Baljeet and Ravinder were present in Baljeet’s office near Baba Jotram Chowk in village Hayatpur around 4.00 p.m. on Tuesday, when two unknown persons entered the office and opened fire at them. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital for further treatment. During treatment, the injured Baljeet was declared dead, while Ravinder is undergoing treatment.

“In connection with the matter, a complaint was filed by the deceased family in which they claimed that Baljeet was a liquor contractor in Jhajjar and the incident was carried out by another liquor contractor in Jhajjar in connection with the liquor business rivalry,” Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson of the Gurugram Police, said.

“The investigation team has identified both the accused. Special teams have been formed to investigate the case, and the assailants will be arrested soon. We are contacting the victim’s family for further investigation. A case has been registered against an unknown person, he said.
