Barcelona, Feb 8 (IANS)Ahead of Barcelona’s trip to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to face Sevilla in the league on Monday (IST), head coach Hansi Flick was asked whether a contract extension for the German was in the pipeline. Flick joined the Catalan giants in May 2024 and his current contract at the club will expire in June, 2026.

“I am not under pressure. I love working for this club. We have much more power and the youth players are very good. I have time, I have a contract for one more year, that’s a long time for a coach. We will see,” said Flick in the pre-match conference.

Before Sevilla v Barca on Sunday comes another vital game in the league – the Madrid derby between Real and Atletico. The two neighbouring clubs are currently separated by just one point heading into the Derby with Los Blancos edging ahead.

“First up is Barça, then we’ll go to dinner and yes, we’ll watch the game. We have to focus on ourselves, but the derby is one of the best games in Europe and I want to see it,” said the German coach. “All the team is doing well. They are showing that and we are creating a lot of chances. Now we have a lot of players available and it’s good to have fresh legs,” said Flick of his Barca squad.

“I am very happy. There’s a good atmosphere in the dressing room and that’s key. They are all battling and that’s great,” he added.

The Barça coach has various options in his squad and the names of Ferran Torres and Eric Garcia came up in the press conference. “Ferran can play in several different positions. I am really happy with his work. He’s really professional and trains really well. He has confidence and that’s good for the tea,” added Flick.

The coach went on to reflect on centre-back: “Eric Garcia is a very flexible player. He works well and he’s happy, and we are too.”

“I like working with his group of players. We have a lot of potential, more with players from La Masia,” concluded Flick.
