Chief Electoral Officer Shri Anupam Rajan informed that The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a “Myth vs Reality Register” a significant measure to combat mis-information and uphold the integrity of the electoral process in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024. This initiative aims to address and dispel misconceptions surrounding the electoral procedures. It was launched by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajeev Kumar, Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Shri Sukhbir Singh Sandhu at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi. “Myth vs Reality Register” is available on the website of Election Commission of India (https://mythvsreality.eci.gov.in/). The factual matrix of the register will be updated regularly.
Election integrity requires quick response to misinformation to deal with various challenges including money, muscle power and violation of model code of conduct. With the growing global cosncern over the spread of misinformation and false stories in many democracies, this innovative and proactive initiative by ECI is a special effort to ensure that voters get accurate and verified information throughout the electoral process. The ‘Myth vs Reality Register’ portal will provide factual information to counter misinformation, myths and lies spread during the election period. This will help in disseminating the facts. It is designed in a user-friendly format. This register will provide information on already publicized election related fake information, myths circulating on social media platforms, FAQs on important topics and reference material for all stakeholders. Any doubtful information received through any channel will be encouraged to be verified and corroborated with the information provided in the Myth vs. Reality Register. This platform can be used to verify information, prevent spread of misinformation, dispel myths and inform about key topics during Lok Sabha Elections-2024. Users can also share information from this register on various social media platforms.
