Campaign to run from World Environment Day to Ganga Dashami
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has urged to actively participate in the campaign for water conservation “Jal Ganga Sanvardhan campaign” starting from World Environment Day. On the instructions of CM Dr. Yadav emphasizes sensitivity towards water and nature in accordance with traditional indigenous vision and culture. The “Jal Ganga Sanvardhan campaign” is set to begin from World Environment Day (June 5) and will run until Ganga Dashami (June 16). The campaign aims to elevate awareness and action by scientifically highlighting medicinal properties and importance of water. This will enhance its impact by successfully implementing various activities to inspire the general public for water promotion and conservation.
In the campaign, the upgradation work of water structures will be undertaken on the basis of top priority. The nullahs or drains of dirty water discharging into the water structures will be purified after diversion and released into the water structures. With the objective of making water structures business and employment oriented, possibilities like tourism, fisheries, water chestnut production will be clearly determined. Geo tagging of the identified water structures will also be done through mobile app. Priority will be given to the use of soil and manure extracted from the water storage structures in the fields of local farmers. Buffer zones will be created as much as possible on the banks of water structures. In this zone, works like development of green area parks will be done to prevent encroachment and to check erosion of rivers and ponds. The quality of water of water structures in urban areas will also be checked.
The campaign will run in the entire state for the conservation and revival of all the major rivers of the state (Narmada, Chambal, Tapti, Son, Betwa, Tawa, Kshipra, Ken, Sindhu, Parvati, Tons etc.) and historical and traditional water structures (ponds, lakes, wells, step-wells etc.). In this, programmes of public interest will be organised with massive cleaning, decoration and folk cultural presentations/bhajans at religious places, pilgrimage sites, fairs and archaeological assets near major rivers and water sources.
In the special campaign, satellite mapping of about 212 rivers, water structures and traditional water sources of the state will be done and survey based documentary books will be published with references of ancient literature, tradition, folk tales. Cultural and traditional and literature and folk literature studies of rivers and suggestions will be taken to ensure continuous flow of rivers, historical traditional water structures. Along with this, study of engineering aspect, folder creation, booklet, subject related articles will also be published. In the special campaign, historical and traditional water structures will be freed from encroachment. Along with this, audio-video CDs will be released.
Under the campaign renovation, maintenance of ancient temples, archaeological assets related to all the major rivers of the state and study and conservation of aquatic life, flora etc. will be conducted. In this, Kshipra Parikrama of Ujjain, festival to offer chunari, jewellery to Kshipra river, Panchamrit Puja and religious events on the banks of Narmada will be organised with public participation.
In the special campaign, a dignified musical presentation will be organised on the banks of Kshipra river on 15 and 16 June 2024. Along with this, Doli Bua, Harikatha (Narad Katha singing tradition) presentation will be held and artists will also be specially felicitated. Traditional Kshipra Parikrama will be organised on a large scale on Ganga Dashami.
For the purpose of public awareness, a water conference will be organised in each urban body on June 6. On June 8, water structures will be cleaned by offering Shramdaan with public participation. On June 9, Kalash Yatra will be organised near the water structures, as well as on June 9, essay and painting competition will be organised on the subject of water conservation, in which local students will participate. From June 10 to 16, along with renovation as per the plan, cleaning of water structures will also be undertaken. On the occasion of Ganga Dashami on 15th and 16th June, Ganga Aarti, Bhajan Samaroh etc. will be organised under cultural programmes on the banks of major water sources. It has also been directed that the conservation, renovation and upgradation programme of water sources will be monitored daily. During this campaign, citizens residing in urban areas will also be encouraged to use rain water harvesting system.
Will take a pledge of Jalabhishek Abhiyan on Ganga Dashami
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav will administer a pledge of Jalabhishek Abhiyan for the conservation, promotion, revival and cleanliness of the rivers and water structure of the state on Ganga Dashami (16 June 2024). The pledge of Jalabhishek will be taken by the general public in the presence of all the public representatives in villages, panchayats, janpads, urban bodies and district headquarters across the state. Every year, starting from Varsha-Pratipada (Universe Creation Day and Vikram Samvat First Day), a campaign for cleaning and water conservation of all the major rivers and water structures of the state including Kshipra will be run in the entire state.
