Guwahati, Feb 11 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday met the Foreign Affairs Minister of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan and held discussions on having deeper ties between Assam and Singapore during his two-day visit to the foreign nation.

Taking to X, Sarma said: “It was a delight to meet the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, H.E @VivianBala We spoke on deepening the existing partnership between the State of Assam and the Republic of Singapore under the overall framework of India’s Act East Policy.”

The Chief Minister also held discussions with the top brass of ITE Education Services.

He mentioned: “Had a very good meeting with Mr Suresh Natarajan, the CEO of ITE Education Services and his team. Their vision to elevate technical education and workforce readiness aligns closely with Assam’s goal to develop a large pool of skilled workforce. During my visit, I had the opportunity to understand the quality of faculty and industry-specific laboratories in aerospace, smart manufacturing and electronics. These play a vital role in bridging the gap between industry solutions and graduate expertise.”

“Over the coming months, we will be seeing closer collaboration between Assam Skill University and ITE. We are also exploring ways to leverage their expertise in setting up a World Skill Centre in Assam along with the private sector,” the Chief Minister added.

Earlier in the day, Sarma met the President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam and held discussions regarding the state’s potential to become a major hub for global investments.

Our discussions covered ongoing collaborative projects, with a special emphasis on Assam’s role as a key pillar in the India-Singapore Comprehensive Partnership. I also shared the fond memories we hold of His Excellency’s visit to Assam in 2022.”

“We deeply appreciate Singapore’s partnership in #AdvantageAssam2 and look forward to strengthening our collaboration in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology,” the CM added.
