Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off an awareness vehicle from Shaheed Gundadhur College of Agriculture and Research Station in Jagdalpur on Thursday, as part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. This initiative aims to educate the people of Bastar district about water conservation practices. The vehicle will travel to all villages in the district, providing crucial information on water-saving measures.
In Bastar district, the Water Resources Department has established 108 water harvesting structures, including large tanks, stop dams, anicuts, and medium irrigation projects. Besides, 95 Amrit Sarovars are being developed, with 75 already completed, prioritizing the participation of women in their construction. Harnessing the power of ‘Nari Shakti,’ a total of 3,881 geo-tagged water harvesting structures have been built under MNREGA. These include 695 in Lohandiguda block, 1,863 in Darbha, 391 in Bastanar, 402 in Jagdalpur, 530 in Bakawand, 306 in Tokapal, and 425 in Bastar. Furthermore, 1,305 new structures are proposed based on the water conservation action plan report.
Tree plantation has also been a focus, with 1,287,781 trees planted across 32 acres under various schemes. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 2,385 women have been trained in water testing, benefiting residents in remote areas. In addition, 11,979 hand pumps have been installed across 614 villages in 433 gram panchayats, and tap water is being supplied to 140 gram panchayats. Under spot source in the district, drinking water arrangements have been made in 61 out of 130 gram panchayats through solar power and in 69 through power pumps.
A total of 718 solar power pumps have been installed across Bastar district by various agencies. The Jal Jeevan Mission has supported the implementation of 630 schemes, the establishment of 153,049 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), 543 Overhead Tanks (OHTs), 992 solar pumps, and 393 solar water supply systems in 614 villages. The ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2022’ campaign, launched by the Honorable President of India on March 29, 2022, aims to enhance rainwater harvesting, upgrade traditional and other water bodies, and develop comprehensive water conservation plans. This initiative includes the revival of rivers and streams, the establishment of Jal Shakti Kendras in all districts, and more.
