Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that the AYUSH Department should prepare an action plan for the effective implementation of the Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission. Provision should be made for the necessary financial budget for campaign activities. Governor Shri Patel was addressing the meeting of the AYUSH Department at Raj Bhavan today.

Governor Shri Patel said that there is wide scope for the AYUSH Department to play an effective role in eradicating sickle cell disease in Madhya Pradesh. Various types of natural medicines are available in abundance in the state. Tribal communities have a rich repository of traditional medical knowledge which needs to be adjusted with modern medical science. Governor Shri Patel directed the department to organize camps in tribal-dominated areas and share information related to sickle cell treatment with experts of traditional medical knowledge based on Ayurveda. He said that their experiences and knowledge must be utilized. Identify appropriate AYUSH medicines for sickle cell disease.

Minister AYUSH Shri Inder Singh Parmar said that the department has prepared an action plan for integrated medicine. Diagnostic efforts are being coordinated in harmony with other medical systems. Medical kits of AYUSH medicines have been prepared for diseases for which treatment medicines are not available in the allopathy system of medicine. He said that it is proposed to set up AYUSH mobile units under the National AYUSH Mission, Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) development blocks. In the first phase, it will be established in Mandla, Baihar in Balaghat, Dindori, Pushparajgarh in Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Guna, Tamia in Chhindwara and Dabra in Gwalior.

President of Tribal Cell, Shri Deepak Khandekar said that the work of screening of sickle cell anemia disease is progressing at a fast pace in the state. So far, 55 lakh target population has been screened. During the screening, 1 lakh 50 thousand patients or carriers have been identified.

Principal Secretary to the Governor Shri Mukeshchand Gupta, Principal Secretary AYUSH Shri Anirudhha Mukherjee, Additional Secretary to the Governor Shri Umashankar Bhargava, and other senior departmental officers and members of the Tribal Cell were present.
