- A week-long book exchange initiative at key TWC Cafes across India
- The passion for reading led to 750+ book swaps, promoting the culture of reading and promoting eco-conscious practices
India, Bangalore, 26 April 2024 — Third Wave Coffee and Crossword Bookstore came together to celebrate “World Book Day” with a week-long (April 23rd-26th) book exchange built on the power of connection via reading. The book swap sparked conversations and connections between bookworms, creating a stronger sense of community. In line with this year’s theme, ‘Read Your Way’, it also aimed at letting people discover how to interact with literature that speaks to them. And what better way to pick a new genre than a book swap?
The four-day event held across co-located Third Wave Coffee and Crossword bookstores located in Pune, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bengaluru, saw 750+ book exchanges. Book lovers brought in a cherished book, leaving a short note explaining what made it special and walked away with a new title to discover.
“It was a truly engaging and wonderful initiative,” said a participant at the Bengaluru event. “Finding a book recommended by a fellow book lover felt like receiving a gift and it felt wonderful going home with something new to read. Finding a note attached to the book felt all the more special. I had a great time conversing and making new friendships over a shared love of books.”
“Books and coffee have long been a perfect pairing. There is something truly special about curling up with a good book and steaming cup of coffee. Partnering with Crossword Bookstores allowed us to celebrate this connection and foster a love for reading within our communities”, said Ayush Bathwal, Co-founder at Third Wave Coffee
“We’re thrilled to have teamed up with Third Wave CafĂ© in such a meaningful way. Our book exchange is so much more than swapping reads; we’re fostering connections, spreading the joy of reading, and creating special stories unique to each giver and receiver. The response has been heartwarming, and we’re eager to bring more initiatives like this to life.”, said Nidhi Gupta, Director at Crossword Bookstores.
Beyond book swaps, this initiative aimed at building and strengthening a sense of community and forging unexpected connections by encouraging people to attach a note within it. Capturing stories and anecdotes about why they enjoyed that book, or simply wishing the next reader a happy reading experience added a personal touch to the whole exercise, thus elevating the overall experience.
