Barun Chanda, Riya Deb Roy, Kamalika Sen Gupta, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee Grace iLEAD’s Future Vista 2024 For Career Insights In The Creative Field

April 12th 2024, Kolkata: The 2nd day of the career conclave of ‘Future Vista- The New Age Careers’ 2024, witnessed the presence of dignitaries from the fields of business and technology, sports and tea.

The 1st panel on traditional media had panelists like Ms. Ayushi Dutta (Food Writer & Freelance Contributor, The Telegraph Online & My Kolkata), Ms. Kamalika Sen Gupta (News 18), and Mr. Tirthankar Das (Principal Correspondent, Aaj Kal Digital).

Ms. Ayushi Dutta advised the journalism aspirants saying, “Your article needs to have something that other people’s articles don’t.” Mr. Tirthankar Das spoke on “being swift and digitally sound, need to know how to edit, how to shoot and how to report in digital journalism.” Ms. Kamalika Sen Gupta shared her experience as a journalist. “Don’t be a story, cover a story”, she said.

The 2nd panel in the morning was on animation and VFX. Mr. Aditya Sengupta (Film Director, Writer, andActor), Ms. Riya Deb Roy (Creative Head, SVF Entertainment), Mr. Biswajit Pegu (CEO & Founder, PenguinFXStudios), and Ms. Joyeeta (Visual Artist, Influencer & Co-Founder of Studio) joined in as esteemed panellists.

Talking about how AI will impact the future generation artists, Mr. Aditya Sengupta said, “AI is going to simplify our work culture. It will work as an assistant feature for artists reducing their workload”. Ms. Riya Deb Roy added about usage of AI saying, “How we equip ourselves to use it is important”. Ms Joyeeta stressed on ‘developing good aesthetics sense’ and ‘deciding on your strength’ to showcase in portfolio. Mr. Biswajit Pegu, shared his experience of working in the Tom Cruise starring Top Gun: Maverick saying, “VFX involves science and art. When we started working on Top Gun, they wanted us to work on scientific calculations”.

The afternoon panel on fashion and interior design had dignitaries like Ms. Anubhuti Jain (Faculty, iLEAD), Ms. Roshan Choudhary (Founder, Roshe), Ms. Tamashree Roy (Film Costume Designer, and Founder of Tamashree ) and Ms. Shreyashi Roy (Cityscape Interior and Hicks Design) along with Mr. Azim Danish (Founder and Principal Architect, Azim Danish Architects)

Ms. Anubhuti Jain talked about how sustainable fashion is impacting the design sector. Ms. Tamashree Roy spoke on ‘how brands are depending on customised products’. Ms. Shreyashi Roy spoke on the importance of research. “As a designer just don’t copy paste”, she said. Ms. Roshan Choudhary spoke about the ‘biggest challenges of the industry at the moment’. “People who are go getters will go and who are not, will not go”, she said.

The panel on film had dignitaries like Mr. Barun Chanda (Actor, Author & Adman), Mr. Sukanta Majumdar (Professor, & Head of the Department, Department of Sound Recording & Design, SRFTI), Mr. Atanu Ghosh (Film Editor), along with Mr. Somdev Chatterjee (Writer & Assistant Professor, Department of Direction & Producing for Electronic & Digital Media) as the moderator.

Mr. Barun Chanda talked about how acting is relevant in visual storytelling from an actor’s perspective. “If you want to be a good actor, don’t act, just be”, he said. Mr. Sukanta Majumdar spoke on sound design and character building in films. “Atmosphere around a place helps in story making”, he said. Mr. Atanu Ghosh discussed about how to analyse script or text for story building.

The last panel of the day was on New Media. The panelists included Mr. Soumyabrata Rakshit (Creative Head, SVF), Ms. Roshni Bhattacharya (Actress), Mr. Mainak Banerjee (Actor), Mr. Kamaleshwar Mukherjee (Film Director) and Ms. Subha Das Mollick (Documentary Director).

Mr. Soumyabrata Rakshit spoke on importance of data. “Something that OTT has that other platforms don’t – Data”, he said. Ms. Roshni Bhattacharya commented on OTT content saying, “OTT has made the content more realistic”. Speaking about regional content’s reach Mr. Mainak Banerjee said, “I feel the Bengali OTT platforms have a long way to go, the Hindi OTT platforms on the other hand have skyrocketed making the Hindi TV serials suffer”. Veteran Director Mr. Kamaleshwar Mukherjee mentioned nuances of filmmaking for both theatrical and OTT platforms. “Film is a director’s media, OTT is a writer’s media”, he said. Ms. Subha Das Mollick stressed on how behind the scenes process has also become engaging content. “Content has diversified. The behind the scenes and process of making content also becomes content”, she said.
