Chief Electoral Officer Shri Rajan in state level media workshop
Media should provide factual and correct information related to elections to the readers. The Commission’s effort is to provide all the latest election related information to the media. Chief Electoral Officer Shri Anupam Rajan said this in the state level media workshop organized at the Academy of Administration. He said that media plays an important role in conducting free and fair elections.
Shri Rajan said that efforts are being made to encourage all voters to exercise their franchise. Media’s cooperation in this work is very important. Media should also participate in voter awareness campaign. Shri Rajan said that he remains in constant touch with the media, so that their doubts can be resolved and correct information reaches the readers.
Facility of postal ballot to journalists holding authorization letter
Chief Electoral Officer Shri Rajan said that journalists holding authorization letters issued by the Election Commission will be provided the facility to vote through postal ballot. With this, journalists will be able to vote through postal ballot when they are busy in coverage on the polling day. He said that voters above 85 years of age and with more than 40 percent disability will be provided the facility to vote from home if they wish. He also answered the queries of journalists.
Journalists are the eyes and ears of the Commission
Joint Election Officer Shri Manoj Khatri said that journalists are the eyes and ears of the Commission. He said that through you the Commission gets information, which is sometimes not apparent to the administration. Shri Khatri said that political advertisements should be issued only after the approval of the MCMC Committee. Advertisement should not be given as news. He also urged journalists to file nominations for the National Media Award.
National Level Master Trainer Professor P.N. Sanesar and Dr. Y.P. Singh gave detailed information about various electoral processes including cVIGIL app, KYC, MCMC, paid news, media ethics and media coverage on the day of polling and counting.
Condolence
Shri Rajan expressed deep condolence on the untimely demise of the son of senior Bhopal journalist Shri Manoj Saini. He prayed to God to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear this loss.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Shri Rajesh Kumar Kaul, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Shri Basant Kurre and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Shri Pramod Shukla officers and journalists were present in the media workshop.
