‘Son of Sardar’ director Ashwini Dhir’s son dies in tragic car accident

Mumbai, Nov 27 (IANS) Filmmaker Ashwini Dhir’s son, Jalaj Dhir, has tragically passed away in a fatal car crash in Mumbai.

The incident occurred early on November 23 on the Western Express Highway in Vile Parle.

Jalaj Dhir, 18, was out for a drive with three of his friends—Sahil Mendha, Sarth Kaushik, and Jedan Jimmy, all also 18. According to reports, Sahil, who was driving the car at the speed of 120–150 km per hour, was under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle near the Sahara Star Hotel. The car crashed into a divider, leading to the tragic accident.

Ashwini’s son reportedly didn’t want to go with his friends, but they insisted that he join them. Sahil and Jedan survived the accident with minor injuries, while Jalaj and Sarth, who were seated in the back seat, sustained severe injuries. Both were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, they succumbed to their injuries. Initially, Jalaj was taken to a hospital in Jogeshwari East before being transferred to Kokilaben Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.

Following Jedan’s complaint, the Mumbai Police arrested Sahil. His blood samples have been sent for testing. The last rites of Jalaj were performed on November 24.

Ashwini Dhir is a renowned film director and scriptwriter. He is widely known for his work in television shows such as “Lapataganj,” “Chidiya Ghar,” “Neeli Chatri Waale,” “Peterson Hill,” “Khatmal E Ishq,” “Har Shaakh Pe Ullu Baithaa Hai,” and “Hum Aapke Hain In Laws.”

He has also directed films including “One Two Three,” “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?” the Ajay Devgn starrer “Son of Sardaar,” and “Guest Iin London.” His last film as a director was Guest Iin London, which was released in 2017.

Ashwini Dhir was in Goa for the world premiere of his new film “Hisaab Barabar” at IFFI when the accident occurred.
