Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools
Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools are being run with the help of Central Government. These schools are being run in those areas where female literacy rate is less than the national average. 75 percent of the girls in these hostels belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Class, Minority community. The remaining 25 percent girls belong to minority and orphan, destitute and single families living below poverty line. Necessary arrangements are being made available to the selected girls to complete their education up to class 8th. At present, about 33 thousand 250 girls are benefiting from the 207 Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools in operation. Under the National Secondary Education Mission, 201 Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools are being run for classes 9th to 12th. In these, study facilities are being provided to 20 thousand 100 girls. Apart from residential facilities, food, sports, self-defense, career counselling and remedial education facilities are also being provided to the girl students.
Migration Hostels
There are families in the state who often migrate from one city to another in search of employment during farming season. During migration, they also take their school going children with them. This hinders their studies. When such children return to the village, the School Education Department has included the provision of migration hostels in the annual work plan to develop their skills.
