Better health initiative through joint program of Education and Health Department
The School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Secondary Education, and National Health Mission jointly run the ‘UMANG School Health’ and Wellness program in all high and higher secondary schools. The program aims to develop life skills among the students to easily achieve their goals and make appropriate decisions for better health. This program is being run in 9 thousand 306 schools in the state and 21 lakh students are getting its benefit.
Training arrangements
To better implement the “UMANG Programme”, 52 state level, 427 district level and 2 teachers in each school have been made Arogya Doots. In the program, different ‘UMANG’ modules have been prepared for the students of classes 9 to 12 according to their age. The module mainly covers serious issues like self-awareness, nutrition, gender violence, early marriage, sexual harassment, domestic violence, and cyber safety. Through these issues, students can understand what is right and what is wrong for them.
Special attention to health
Through the “UMANG Programme”, special attention is being paid to the health of adolescents studying in schools. Iron folic tablets, health check-ups, and nutritional check-ups are being done regularly for the students. Along with this, there is a special arrangement to provide information about sanitary pads, hygiene, and safe management during menstruation to the girl students. Special emphasis is also being laid on making schools tobacco-free through the “UMANG Programme”.
“UMANG Programme” lauded
The positive outcome of the “UMANG Programme” has been appreciated at every forum at the State Government level. The program has also been awarded. It has received more than 25 lakh views on YouTube, more than 9 lakh positive feedback from students, and more than 38 thousand feedback from teachers. 10 posters have been created to develop respect for girls and women among students. These posters are proving helpful in creating a feeling of respect towards women. The “UMANG Programme” is also being constantly reviewed by departmental officials.
